The Brand

ANKARA ON BRAND (AOB) IS A UK-BASED CONTEMPORARY WOMENSWEAR BRAND FOUNDED IN 2021 BY NINA AMOO TO REIMAGINE KEY WORKWEAR ESSENTIALS FOR THE MODERN WORKPLACE.

We create timeless everyday designs with an emphasis on comfort and versatility using our signature African inspired prints. Our goal is to help women build highly desirable work wardrobes for a modern hybrid workplace that they will be able to rely on for years to come.

Our limited series collections are made up of elevated but work-appropriate dresses and separates that can easily transition between professional and private environments. For each drop, we focus on sleek and simple, yet expertly crafted classics with an update. Key staples in soft fabrics and modern, loose-fitting cuts create hybrid looks that combine function, comfort and style. Our philosophy is to incorporate playful designs that mix modernity and femininity – a contemporary uniform for women on the go.

Our prints

All our prints are custom made and designed in-house. We pay homage to the rich tradition of African Ankara print, woven and dyed textiles. Our prints reflect the interlocking threads of African culture and history and represent a consistent, continual investment in self. Our signature AOB prints tell the story of how to navigate and identify on western soil and live authentically in tandem with the beauty of the past.

Each print has been uniquely designed for AOB to create a link between you and Africa’s heritage and craftsmanship. The art of Ankara encapsulates this delicate balance. Interlocking threads are woven together, followed by layers of dyeing in vivid hues. Together, they form an elaborate whole that resists easy definition. Just so, geometric patterns and organic shapes in an almost Afro-futuristic style unite to represent a cycle of life continually in flux.

AOB’s vision is to make Ankara one of the go-to prints, transforming it from an occasional trend to a fashion mainstay.

“OUR PRINTS ARE NO FLEETING TREND. THEY ARE PART OF THE VERY LANDSCAPE OF AFRICA, OF ITS TRADITIONS AND MEMORIES. AND THIS PIECE OF AFRICA, LIKE ITS PEOPLE, CAN TRANSCEND ALL CONSTRAINTS TO MAP OUT A NEW FUTURE.” — Nina Amoo, Founder
